Dealing with Burnout & Boundaries:
I remember working at a really nice job and thinking that I didn’t deserve it, so I felt like I had to work harder than the average person. That compounded over the years and I eventually became a team leader,
until that massive panic attack.
I felt too numb to get out of bed for the first time. My mom urged me to go to a psychiatrist where I was assigned some medications. Once I got better, I went back to doing conferences which eventually reached to 40-50 a week because someone couldn’t say ‘no’.
Another panic attack at work.
That’s when I moved to Berlin and sought a therapist.
And put a sticky note that says ‘NO.’ on my monitor so whenever anyone asked me for a favor, I was forced to look at the note before doing anything.
Words for the audience:
If you’re experiencing a burnout, I hope you have the ability and are privileged enough to take some time off. Some countries have a disability insurance for burnout, so try to find out whether yours does.
The more underrepresented you are in tech, the worse it is for you, but that’s why you really need to pace yourself and set important boundaries.

PROFESSIONAL RIZZ TIP OF THE DAY
Things to avoid when applying for your first job:
Not researching the company’s background, values, & culture in-depth.
Expecting someone else to grow your network unconditionally.
Relying on others to provide feedback without you asking them every time.
A bonus tip from Erin:
Switching tones too often, especially right after your first impression. Do not pretend to be excited and then suddenly become neutral the next day. Your colleagues are not your friends, and they may get the wrong idea.
Finally,
You have successfully completed the game. Congrats!🎊
Will be back with more,
The Rundown Team.
